Pulse shape analysis of a segmented Germanium detector and a new technique for noise filtration

A new approach of de-noising based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) has been
developed for filtering of regular and chaotic signals. The proposed filtering approach is
based on the frequency distribution of different Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs). It provides
complete frequency and noise strength information present in the data set. The method has
been tested for linear, nonlinear, and chaotic types of simulated data at various levels of noise
strengths. The present method has been implemented to explain the date from astrophysics
(sun spot), neutron detector and mirror signal of a twofold clover detector. A brief description
of the EMD technique and the results of the noise filtration of the pulses from a neutron and a
germanium detector will be discussed
