ANNOUNCEMENT

GANIL will issue the first “GANIL PhD Award” to distinguish an outstanding PhD thesis in Nuclear Physics. The prize will reward PhD work devoted to theoretical and experimental nuclear physics studies and technological developments related to GANIL (e.g., experiments performed at GANIL). Of course, candidates can be from all the laboratories of the international community. This reward will now be awarded every three years.

 The deadline for proposal submission is the 19th May 2011.

 

The GANIL PhD Award is endowed with 1500 € and will be presented to the winner at the XVIIth Colloque GANIL (Belgodère, Corsica, France, September 25th to 30th , 2011), where the laureate will have the opportunity to present his work.

 

Eligibility of applications

 

The jury will consider PhD theses in Nuclear Physics defended between January 1st, 2008 and  April 15th, 2011.

 

Evaluation of the submitted proposals will be carried out by an Award Evaluation Board, which consists of high-level scientists in nuclear physics. All proposals will be evaluated by three evaluators according to the following criteria:

- Scientific quality,  

- Scientific impact for the field,

- Originality and novelty of the subject,

- Quality of related publications.

Application

To be considered, the candidate is asked to provide the jury with the following information:

  1. A copy of the PhD thesis (regardless of language)
  2. An extended abstract (5 pages) of the dissertation; this abstract should be written in English and should include precise keywords,
  3. The report of the PhD defense or if not available a recommendation letter by a member of the PhD jury.
  4. Two letters of recommendations, supporting the submission and stating their assessment of why the thesis should win the award.
  5. An up-to-date CV of the candidate (max 2 pages), including a list of publications.

No nomination will be considered without these items.
