The microscopic excitations which can a ect the stellar matter are a necessary
input for the modelization of neutron-star cooling. They are determined by the
strong-interaction properties. I will present a study of the normal density modes in
homogeneous neutron-star matter, at densities where the expected hadronic consti-
tuants are neutrons and protons (until three times saturation density). The calcu-
lations are performed in the RPA framework, and two kinds of nuclear models are
compared: Skyrme-like e ective forces, and forces derived from Brueckner-Hartree-
Fock microscopic calculations. I will emphasize the e ect of electron screening on
the proton plasmon mode, the role of the nuclear e ective mass, and the damping
e ects which must be considered to identify the relevant modes.
