Chasing Neutrons: the highest neutron orbitals and novel neutron detectors

Partha Chowdhury (Department of Physics, University of Massachusetts Lowell, USA)

11h00 GANIL seminar room (105)

a coffee will be served 15mn before

The talk will present a broad overview of two unrelated research projects where neutrons are the dominant theme. The first will cover nuclear structure studies of trans-plutonium neutron-rich nuclei at high angular momentum, using inelastic and transfer reactions with heavy beams, radioactive targets and the Gammasphere array, carried out using the ATLAS facility at Argonne. The second pertains to our developing the novel dual neutron-gamma scintillator Cs2LiYCl6 (or CLYC) for fast neutron spectroscopy, for use in both fundamental and applied nuclear science, with experiments at the WNR facility at Los Alamos, the CARIBU facility at ATLAS, and our own Radiation Laboratory at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
