Physics with Low Energy Beams at SPIRAL2

July 4th-5th - Caen, France

The SPIRAL 2 facility, a second generation radioactive beam facility, will be constructed in the next few years at GANIL and be operational in 2010. The aim of this installation is to produce high-intensity, high-quality radioactive ion beams of isotopes from large regions of the chart of nuclei. One part of this facility will be the ISOL installation LIRAT, which will receive low-energy beams directly from the production target – ion source.

The purpose of the workshop is to bring together scientists interested in low-energy experiments at LIRAT to discuss the layout of the facility and the installations needed to efficiently use the new possibilities open by SPIRAL2. It is also aimed at the formation of collaborations to formulate scientific and technical proposals for equipment to be developed and installed at LIRAT.

The workshop will consist of plenary talks on selected subjects which will be studied at LIRAT as well as of working group sessions on the following four topics:

  • Beam handling / Traps :                                 O. Naviliat, A. Jokinen,D. Lunney, F. Herfurth
  • Decay studies and spectroscopy :                  B. Blank, M.J.G. Borge
  • Laser spectroscopy :                                      F. Leblanc, G. Neyens

The program within each working group will be organised by the indicated convenors. All scientists interested in the physics program at LIRAT are encouraged to contact these convenors and to propose a contribution to the working group. At the end of the workshop, a summary of each working group will be presented in a concluding plenary session.
