SPIRAL2: "Système de Production d'Ions Radioactifs en Ligne" - generation 2. The unique beams from SPIRAL2 will permit scientific studies, which were previously impossible.
SPIRAL2 Preparatory Phase (SPIRAL2 PP) is a European Project of the 7th Framework Program (FP7) of the European Commission. It goes with the groundwork of SPIRAL2, which is selected by the ESFRI Committee as a project of excellence.
Since the SPIRAL2 Week conference, in January 2012, significant progress has been achieved by the collaborations working on SPIRAL2 instrumentation.
These achievements concern all the aspects of the development of new instrumentation: technological developments, collaboration organization, publications, …
The active target and time projection chamber (ACTAR TPC) collaboration has now moved one step closer towards realizing a next-generation gas-filled detection system for studying the structure and decays of the most exotic nuclei. A first 2048-channel prototype version called the “ACTAR TPC Demonstrator” has now been constructed and is presently being tested at GANIL in the G3 experimental hall.
From the very beginning of the SPIRAL project, an upgrade – SPIRAL 2 – was envisaged to increase both the range and the mass of exotic nuclei produced by SPIRAL. The initial idea ...
