SPIRAL2 Preparatory Phase (SPIRAL2 PP) is a European Project of the 7th Framework Program (FP7) of the European Commission. It goes with the groundwork of SPIRAL2, which is selected by the ESFRI Committee as a project of excellence.

The active target and time projection chamber (ACTAR TPC) collaboration has now moved one step closer towards realizing a next-generation gas-filled detection system for studying the structure and decays of the most exotic nuclei. A first 2048-channel prototype version called the “ACTAR TPC Demonstrator” has now been constructed and is presently being tested at GANIL in the G3 experimental hall.
